On Friday, a man tried to stab a police officer with a knife during a ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Police said the attacker was shot and wounded by a fellow officer, then taken to hospital; a police officer was also apparently injured. President Emmanuel Macron reacted immediately on the social‑media platform X, saying the security forces had halted the attack and prevented a worse outcome. He expressed the nation’s solidarity with the wounded gendarmes and linked the incident to “Islamic terrorism”.
