Poland has invoked Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty following the downing of several Russian drones within its airspace. Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the move on Wednesday in Warsaw, highlighting the formal consultation mechanism triggered when a member state believes its territorial integrity, political independence, or security is threatened.
Tusk characterized the incident as a “large-scale provocation” by Moscow, adding that Poland had successfully navigated its first test during the event.
Earlier in the morning, Polish and NATO fighter jets intercepted and shot down multiple drones after they entered Polish airspace during a large-scale Russian attack on western Ukraine. Authorities confirmed no casualties were reported within Poland and initial efforts to locate debris are underway.
