Berlin’s police have released a preliminary positive assessment of the extended party weekend featuring several major events.
Saturday, in particular, was described by police spokesperson Martin Stralau as a “very satisfactory day”. Approximately 100,000 attendees participated in the “Rave The Planet” event, which saw crowds moving along Straße des 17. Juni and surrounding areas. The atmosphere was largely peaceful, according to authorities. While 33 measures restricting freedoms were implemented, these were reportedly minor and related to incidents such as isolated instances of assault and the presence of unauthorized vendors selling beverages.
Concurrent with “Rave The Planet” an estimated 60,000 individuals attended the Lollapalooza festival at Berlin’s Olympiastadion. Police reported “no significant incidents” at this venue. The same held true for the Formula E race held on the grounds of the former Tempelhof Airport, which continues onto Sunday. A significant police presence was deployed across all three events throughout the weekend.
