During a pursuit in Saarbrücken in the early hours of Easter Sunday, police shot and injured a man. According to a report citing the public prosecutor’s office, the incident occurred around 1:00 AM when a vehicle attempted to evade a police check. The car eventually got trapped in a dead end. While attempting to turn around, a female police officer was reportedly injured. Following this, the police fired multiple shots at the fleeing vehicle, which fatally wounded the 22-year-old driver. The report also stated that in addition to the driver, there was a 23-year-old passenger and a 19-year-old in the back seat. The 19-year-old was also reportedly injured by gunfire. At the time, details regarding the severity of the injuries for the 19-year-old and the police officer were not provided. An investigation is currently underway to determine the background of the flight and the fatal police shots.
