Janine Wissler, a member of the Bundestag and former leader of The Left party, has strongly criticized the proposed reform of statutory health insurance, calling for its complete cancellation in its current form. Speaking to RTL and ntv on Friday, Wissler argued that the most effective way to stabilize contributions would be to eliminate the system of two-tiered medicine. She stated that the system needs fundamental change rather than imposing further burdens on those covered by statutory insurance.
According to Wissler, the root problem is not merely that not everyone contributes to the health insurance system, but rather the existence of a two-tiered healthcare structure. Furthermore, she noted that the profits of private clinic operators and pharmaceutical corporations are being generated at the expense of public health funding. The Left party rejects any reform that would place increased financial strain on statutory insured individuals and employees. Consequently, she added, she would prefer that the reform not only be postponed but entirely scrapped as it currently stands.
