Postbank Reaches Agreement: Wage Hikes, Extended Job Security Secured for Employees

The service union Verdi and the Postbank’s employers have reached a collective bargaining agreement affecting approximately 9,000 employees, following four rounds of negotiations. According to Verdi, the agreement covers not only salary hikes but also qualitative improvements, including extensions to job security and assurances about the future of the branch network.

Both sides agreed on several wage increases. Starting on July 1, 2026, monthly salaries will rise by €175, equating to an average increase of 4.5%. This will be followed by a further increase of 2.9% on July 1, 2027. Trainee compensation will similarly increase in two separate steps of €75 each. The terms of the collective agreement will be valid until July 31, 2028.

In terms of job security, the notice protection period has been extended until the end of 2028. Furthermore, the agreement secures the existing branch network, guaranteeing that at least 300 branches and 13 digital advisory centers will remain operational until March 2028.

Jan Duscheck, the lead negotiator for Verdi, credited this achievement to the dedication of the employees and the warning strikes they executed during the talks. Beyond salary and protective measures, the labor parties also committed to proactively addressing the effects of Artificial Intelligence and other structural transformations. They plan to guide this change actively through professional qualification programs and strategic human resource planning.

Verdi members are scheduled to make their final decision regarding the proposed results by July 24.
