Pressure Mounts: Germany Urges End to Gaza Conflict

A significant majority of German citizens believe the federal government should increase diplomatic pressure on Israel to end the conflict in Gaza, according to a recent survey conducted by Forsa Institute. The poll, commissioned by “Der Stern” and RTL Deutschland, reveals that 74% of respondents advocate for heightened diplomatic efforts.

The remaining 22% do not share that view, while 4% declined to express an opinion. Notably, the sentiment crosses demographic and political boundaries, indicating a widespread desire for increased governmental action.

Support for greater pressure is particularly strong among voters of the Left party (94%) and the Green party (88%). Even supporters of the ruling coalition parties, the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) and the Social Democratic Party (SPD), largely agree, with 77% each advocating for increased diplomatic action.

While a majority of Alternative for Germany (AfD) voters (61%) also favor a more assertive stance towards Israel, a considerable 37% oppose it, highlighting a divergence of opinion within that voter base.

The survey, conducted via telephone between July 24th and 25th, polled 1,001 individuals.
