Progress on Judge Selection Hopes Rise

Government officials express optimism regarding upcoming Constitutional Court judge election.

Thorsten Frei, Minister in the Chancellery, has expressed confidence that the upcoming election for judges at the Federal Constitutional Court will be successful. Speaking to the “Rhinische Post” Frei stated he is “very confident” that a consensus can be reached between the coalition factions, leading to a two-thirds majority in the Bundestag.

Frei acknowledged that the governing coalition has experienced some missteps in its initial months. “It is a demanding environment in which we all operate. We have undoubtedly made mistakes in some areas in the first four months of the coalition. That applies to almost everyone” he stated. He added that these issues will be addressed, while emphasizing the coalition remains functional.
