Eintracht Frankfurt were knocked out of the Champions League on Wednesday night when they lost 2-3 at home against Qarabag in Baku. The German side were trailing early after an own‑goal by Camilo Durán in the fourth minute gave Qarabag a 1-0 advantage. Frankfurt pulled level just six minutes later when Can Uzun converted a corner‑side effort into a tidy 1-1.
The first half was dominated by Qarabag, who kept more possession and played repeatedly from the left flank. Despite their attacking pressure, neither side created a clear chance, leaving the score unchanged at half‑time.
After the interval the hosts continued to dictate play. The decisive moment came in the 76th minute when referee Sandro Schärer awarded a penalty to Frankfurt and Fares Chaibi calmly slotted the ball home, giving the Hessians a 2-1 lead. The euphoria lasted only a minute, however, when a swift counter‑attack on the right resulted in Cəfərquliyev delivering a precise pass to Durán, who equalised for Qarabag in the 78th minute.
The remainder of the match saw both teams pushing for a win, as a draw would have offered no advantage. In the fourth minute of added time, Matheus Silva broke through on the right to deliver a ball into the penalty area, where Bəhlul Mustafazadə found a space and calmly finished, making the score 3-2 in favour of Qarabag. The match ended shortly thereafter.
The defeat is a heavy blow for Frankfurt, who would have needed a win to have a realistic shot at progressing. Qarabag, on the other hand, can now keep dreaming of a place in the playoffs.
