Raid on Saxon AfD MP Jörg Dornau Over Alleged Export Violation to Belarus

On Wednesday morning, the Leipzig public prosecutor’s office authorized a search of the residential and business premises as well as the vehicles of Saxon AfD state parliament member Jörg Dornau. The operation was carried out by the Customs Investigation Office in Dresden and was intended to secure evidence, the authorities said.

The investigation concerns allegations of a breach of the Foreign Trade Act. Dornau is alleged to have incorrectly listed Kazakhstan as the destination country in a customs declaration in August 2022, in an attempt to evade an export ban to Belarus. The vehicle in question was, in fact, delivered to Belarus.

Prior to the searches, the Saxon Landtag voted in its morning plenary session to lift the member’s parliamentary immunity. No offices of the Landtag or its factions were searched. No further details were released about the ongoing investigation.
