Bodo Ramelow, the former head of the Thuringia government (from the Left party), has pointed out a clear political connection between AfD faction leader Björn Höcke and BSW founder Sahra Wagenknecht. This observation comes after Höcke publicly proposed that Wagenknecht should become the Minister-President of the free state.
Speaking to the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland,” Ramelow noted that Höcke had taken Wagenknecht’s words literally and was essentially promoting an invitation that Wagenknecht herself had previously offered the AfD concerning the election in Saxony-Anhalt. “That aligns,” Ramelow stated, shaking his head. “I don’t have more to add to it.” Wagenknecht had previously signaled that her party might support an AfD candidate to win the parliamentary election in Saxony-Anhalt on September 6th.
Former Left party chairman Bernd Riexinger strongly criticized Wagenknecht, accusing her of a “moral and political decline.” He asserted that Höcke’s action is a strategic maneuver intended to keep Wagenknecht and the BSW relevant ahead of the Saxony-Anhalt election. “The best outcome would be for the BSW not to enter the parliament at all,” Riexinger told the RND. “Because whoever plays with fire should not be given gasoline.” Regarding Wagenknecht personally, Riexinger added that it is not uncommon for politicians to start on the far left only to end up far on the right.
Höcke had publicly made the invitation in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), telling Wagenknecht directly, “I offer you my hand. Become the Minister-President of the Free State of Thuringia.”
