RB Leipzig have signed 23‑year‑old midfielder Rocco Reitz from Borussia Mönchengladbach, securing him on a contract that runs through 2031. The German Bundesliga club announced the deal on Monday, noting that Reitz has already completed 88 Bundesliga appearances for Mönchengladbach, in which he scored eight goals and supplied six assists.
Leipzig’s sporting director Marcel Schäfer called Reitz “the ideal player for the central midfield area” emphasising the “transparent and fair negotiations” that took place. He added that Reitz is a versatile link between defence and attack, boasting league‑top statistics in sprints, intense runs, kilometres covered, and speed. In addition to these physical attributes, Reitz brings strong game awareness, control, the right mentality and leadership qualities for his age – all of which leave room for further development.
Bayern’s sports director Rouven Schröder highlighted that the transfer fee Leipzig will receive for Reitz “is the highest ever generated by Borussia for a player produced in their own academy”. The early agreement, he said, gives the club a clear advantage in its planning, and he praised Reitz’s commitment to achieving shared goals.
Reitz progressed through every youth team at Mönchengladbach’s academy before making his Bundesliga debut in October 2020. After two loan spells with Belgian side VV St. Truiden, he established himself as a regular starter in the 2023/24 season and was regularly wearing the vice‑captain armband. During the current campaign he has been a true “durable” player, appearing in 24 of 26 matches, and records a top speed of 35.63 km/h, placing him among the league’s fastest. Up until last summer he also represented Germany at under‑21 level, helping the side to a European under‑21 runner‑up finish.
