After a firefighting operation at the Reichstag building was launched due to a gas alarm, authorities have issued a safe‑to‑return declaration. “Because no confirmation could be made, the firefighters withdrew after about a quarter of an hour” a fire‑brigade spokesperson told Bild on Thursday morning. The alarm went off at 5:15 a.m. when trace amounts of gas were detected. A response force of 80 firefighters and several engines then arrived on the scene to assess the situation. The warning was lifted just before 8 a.m. The exact cause of the alarm was initially unclear, but the fire service suggested that a highly concentrated cleaning agent might have been responsible.
