German pensioners are receiving increased monthly benefits in 2024, according to a recent analysis by the German Pension Insurance (Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund), reported by Bild am Sonntag. Existing pensioners will receive an average of €1,486 per month, while pensioners receive €985 monthly. These figures represent a rise of €59 and €49 respectively compared to the previous year.
Significant regional variations in pension amounts have been identified. Baden-Württemberg currently provides the highest average pension for men, after accounting for health and long-term care insurance contributions, at €1,553. The Saarland and North Rhine-Westphalia closely follow, with averages of €1,552 and €1,535 respectively. For women, the highest average pensions are found in East Berlin (€1,374), Brandenburg (€1,285) and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (€1,270). Conversely, men in West Berlin receive the lowest average pension at €1,263, while women in the Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate receive €797 and €863 respectively.
New entrants to the pension system in 2024 are, on average, receiving lower payments than those already receiving pensions. Male new pensioners average €1,374 per month, a decrease of €112 compared to the payments received by older pensioners. Female new pensioners average €1,000 monthly, a slight increase compared to existing pension amounts.
