Rhineland‑Palatinate Election Sees 40% Turnout by 10 AM, 34% of Votes Cast by Mail

By 10 a.m. in the Rhineland-Palatinate state election, roughly 40 % of eligible voters had already cast their ballots. About 34 % had applied for postal voting, and another roughly 6 % voted within the first two hours after polling stations opened, according to state election commissioner Marco Ludwig.

A direct comparison with the 2021 state election is only limited. At that time, due to the COVID‑19 pandemic, 44 % of eligible voters had used postal voting, and a very low, single‑digit percentage of voters had cast their ballots in the first two hours after opening. The overall turnout in 2021 was 64.3 %.

Polling stations will remain open until 6 p.m., after which the first projections will be released.
