Ricarda Lang Urges Chancellor Merz to Speak Out on Collien Fernandes Digital Violence Case and Push for Stricter Laws

Former Green Party leader Ricarda Lang urged Chancellor Friedrich Merz to take a clear stand on the Collien Fernandes case. “I would like to see Friedrich Merz comment on the Collien Fernandes situation, because he is the chancellor of this country” she told RTL and ntv on Monday. “As chancellor he also bears responsibility for whether we live in a nation where women feel safe – whether on the streets or online”.

At the same time, Lang criticised shortcomings in protecting women from digital violence. “When it comes to digital violence and the protection of women, our legal system fails” she said. “As chancellor, I cannot dismiss this as a marginal issue or penalise it with ignorance”. She called for the chancellor to refuse silence, to affirm solidarity, and to push forward laws that’ll safeguard women in the future.

Lang, together with 250 prominent women, had submitted a 10‑point plan to combat digitally sexualised violence. The plan demands tougher legislation against deepfakes, stronger protection for victims, and greater accountability for internet platforms.
