Rome Gas Station ERUPTS Injuries Reported

An explosion at a gas station on Via dei Gordiani in Rome’s Prenestino district on Friday morning resulted in injuries and property damage.

According to Italian media reports, the incident occurred shortly after 8:00 AM when a pump detached from a fuel tanker supplying the station. A loud bang was heard throughout many neighborhoods of the Italian capital and a large plume of smoke was visible over a wide area of the city.

The Teano metro station on Line C was closed by authorities, according to Rome’s public transport operator, Atac. At least one firefighter and several emergency personnel sustained injuries. Initial reports indicate firefighters were initially responding to a truck that had damaged a utility line. The explosion occurred upon their arrival, impacting paramedics who were already present.

The detonation caused damage to several nearby buildings and flames spread to an adjacent depot. Some pedestrians are also reported to have been injured.
