A planned visit to Washington D.C. by German CDU politician Friedrich Merz, alongside the Ukrainian President and other European leaders, has been welcomed as a strong signal of support.
Norbert Röttgen, a leading figure in the CDU’s foreign policy team, emphasized the importance of the trip, stating it demonstrates solidarity with Ukraine and its President. He noted the meeting with former US President Trump is rightly seen by European heads of state and government as a significant event.
Röttgen suggested a key objective of the initiative is to reaffirm to the former US President that the Ukrainian leadership is not isolated and that its positions align with those of European nations.
