FC Schalke 04 advanced in the first round of the DFB-Pokal following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Regionalliga side Lok Leipzig, decided in extra time. The match remained scoreless throughout the initial 90 minutes of play.
Despite the difference in league standing, a clear disparity in quality wasn’t immediately evident. Leipzig created several promising opportunities in the second half, pushing for a lead, while Schalke struggled to mount sustained attacking pressure.
The pattern continued into extra time, with Leipzig maintaining a compact defensive shape and looking to exploit counter-attacks, while Schalke aimed to establish control through possession. However, the home side appeared to tire as the extra period progressed, allowing Schalke’s Bryan Lasme to break the deadlock in the 107th minute. Despite a late push, Leipzig were unable to find an equaliser, resulting in Schalke’s progression to the next round of the competition.
