Schalke 04 and 1. FC Kaiserslautern concluded the 19th matchday of the 2. Bundesliga with a 2-2 draw. Ivan Prtajin had taken the hosts to a 2-0 advantage with headers in the 61st and 84th minutes. In the 87th minute, debutant Edin Džeko put Schalke in front with a goal, and two minutes later Kenan Karaman levelled the score in the 90th minute. Coach Miron Muslic had announced before the game that Džeko would start on the bench and come on later to make his impact.
In a parallel fixture, SC Paderborn 07 beat Preußen Münster 2-1. Münster opened the scoring in the second minute with a header by Etienne Amenyido after a cross from Jano ter Horst. Paderborn equalised in the 50th minute when Steffen Tigges headed home after a cross from Curda. Tigges then secured the win with his second goal, and Münster were reduced to ten men in the 28th minute when Yassine Bouchama was sent off for a serious foul.
VfL Bochum and SV Elversberg finished 1-1. Bochum took the lead in the 24th minute when Mats Pannewig finished a cross from Morgalla, and Elversberg equalised in the 53rd minute when Lukas Petkov scored after a cut‑back by Mickelson. Both teams created further chances but were unable to add to the tally.
