Scheuer Investigation: Ex-Minister Faces Charges After Toll Scandal Findings Confirmed

A former member of the Free Democratic Party’s (FDP) committee investigating the road toll system, Oliver Luksic, has indicated that the recent indictment of former Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) for potential false testimony validates the findings of that committee. In comments to the “Rheinische Post” newspaper, Luksic stated that it would have been preferable for political consequences to have been drawn from the issues surrounding the road toll system, emphasizing the clarity of the committee’s results.

Luksic further elaborated that budgetary and procurement regulations, as well as the rights of the parliament, were disregarded. He suggested that it would have been prudent to await a ruling from the European Court of Justice or to pursue an alternative, modified toll system even after receiving that ruling. He expressed surprise at the timing of the public prosecutor’s decision to take action, noting the delay since the initial investigations.
