Schwerdtner Challenges CDU’s “Unvereinbarkeitsbeschluss” on the Left, Calling It “Childish” and Urging a Policy Shift

Before the Stuttgart CDU party day began, the Left party’s chairperson, Ines Schwerdtner, challenged the Union’s incompatibility ruling against the Left. She said that the blanket ban on any cooperation with the Left was “childish” and would literally bind the CDU’s hands. “It is primarily a cover for avoiding social policy” she told Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (Friday editions).

Schwerdtner called on the Union to change direction, warning that a policy of cutting resources at the bottom while sparing the top serves only a few rather than the majority. “The CDU’s federal convention is gearing up for what many people fear: less job‑security protection, lower pensions, and reduced coverage if a member falls ill”.

Regarding the CDU’s internal discussion about easing the incompatibility resolution, the Left chair highlighted substantive differences. “With their slashing policy, the Union remains our biggest opponent in the Bundestag” she said.
