Bavarian Premier Markus Söder, also head of the Christian Social Union (CSU), has advocated for stricter penalties and deportations in cases of sexual assault occurring in public swimming pools. Speaking on Wednesday in the “Politikergrillen mit Jan Philipp Burgard” program on the “Welt” television channel, Söder stated the need for “high penalties, especially for repeat offenders. And if it’s someone who is not German, they must be consistently deported.
Söder asserted that Germany currently deports too few individuals convicted of crimes, emphasizing the necessity for a more consistent approach to such offenses. He expressed concern that the current situation is infringing upon personal freedoms, stating that people should not be afraid to use public facilities like swimming pools.
The Bavarian Premier believes that perpetrators demonstrate “misguided views of our values” and that penalties are essential to convey the importance of these values. He argued that significant punishments would deter repeat offenses, with subsequent offenses leading to either harsher penalties or deportation.
