Semiconductor Strength Drives DAX Rally Amid Geopolitical Calm and Economic Focus Shifts

The DAX saw some of its midday gains eroded on Friday after a very positive start to trading. As of approximately 12:30 PM, the leading index stood at around 25,812 points, representing a rise of 0.8% compared to the previous day’s closing level.

Andreas Lipkow, Chief Market Analyst at CMC Markets, noted that the DAX 40 had narrowly missed its previous all-time high of 25,900 points, trading at 25,891 points during the period analyzed. Lipkow commented that investors are no longer being heavily swayed by geopolitical developments in the Middle East, instead focusing more intensely on the upcoming earnings season and broader macroeconomic influences.

The analyst further explained that the strong positive performance in semiconductor companies is boosting European equity markets with new momentum heading into the weekend. According to Lipkow, this sector trend could potentially outweigh weak Chinese Purchasing Manager Index readings, allowing stocks such as Infineon, Siemens Energy, and Hochtief to return to positions at the top of the DAX index.

Switching focus to domestic indicators, Lipkow stated that July’s seasonally adjusted German unemployment numbers were below expectations. He indicated that this suggests Germany’s economic recovery is primarily being supported by cost savings and synergy effects. However, he cautioned that it is premature to speak of a broad economic recovery that would result in a decline in unemployment. Investors are currently directing their attention toward the Chicago Purchasing Manager Index and the Consumer Sentiment data from the University of Michigan.

In other market movements, the Euro weakened on Friday afternoon, trading at 1.1502 US Dollars. Conversely, the dollar was valued at 0.8694 Euros. In energy markets, the price of Brent crude increased; a barrel of North Sea Brent crude cost $89.30 at 12 PM German time on Friday afternoon, marking a rise of 0.3% or 27 cents compared to the previous day’s closing price.
