Severe Storms Threaten Southern Germany

Severe thunderstorms are anticipated across parts of southern Germany, particularly impacting the states of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria.

The German Weather Service (DWD) issued a warning Sunday evening, forecasting potential flooding of basements and roadways, alongside damage to buildings, vehicles and agricultural crops due to hail. These warnings are currently in effect from 7:20 PM to 11:00 PM local time; however, an extension of the warnings or a geographic broadening to encompass additional areas remains a possibility.

A cold front associated with a low-pressure system located near the British Isles is moving eastward across Germany, anticipated to reach the region by Monday evening. This system will displace the intensely humid Mediterranean air mass with cooler air originating from the North Atlantic.

Localized thunderstorms are developing, with some potentially reaching severe weather conditions in southern Germany due to heavy rainfall and large hail. The DWD reports that the severity of the storms will gradually decrease throughout the night into Monday.
