Germany’s largest social welfare association, the VdK, is advocating for greater standardization, or “bundling” of processes in social benefit distribution.
Speaking to the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung (NOZ), VdK President Verena Bentele emphasized the potential benefits of streamlining administrative procedures. She stated that simplification would not only alleviate burdens on authorities and service providers but would also be a welcome change for individuals navigating the often complex application processes. “Slimmer applications, less paperwork and reduced attention to detail can save money, working hours and valuable life time” she explained.
Bentele’s remarks come as a response to calls from local municipalities seeking a noticeable reduction in bureaucracy within the social services sector. The Federal Government’s Social State Commission, which commenced its work this week, is tasked with developing concrete proposals for reform.
However, the VdK president cautioned against measures that may lead to significant cuts in benefits. “Bundling must not result in sensitive reductions” Bentele warned in the NOZ. She stressed the importance of maintaining individual assessments, particularly for elderly individuals with specific needs, ensuring that these cases do not fall through the cracks.
