Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder (CSU) said that Bavaria will tap EU funding to bring nuclear power back into service. “It is good that the EU is supporting new nuclear technologies” Söder told the “Bild” (Tuesday edition). “We want to take advantage of the grant and play a decisive role in researching the technology”.
Söder explained that Bavaria alone is ready to invest up to €400 million for the construction of the Alpha demonstration fusion reactor. “Major German players such as RWE are working with Bavarian start‑ups like Proxima‑Fusion and the Max‑Planck Institute for Plasma Physics” he added. “We are following a clear philosophy: we want to develop future technologies here in the state and make them economically viable. Only this way can we detach ourselves from international crises and long supply chains in the long run”.
