CSU leader Markus Söder says the promised electricity‑tax cut will indeed be applied to everyone. “I am also very much in favour of permanently lowering the electricity tax for all parties involved” Söder told RTL and ntv. “It is a clear promise and it must be fulfilled”. He emphasized that he is actively fighting within the coalition to make this happen.
He added that it cannot be the case that, in the end, we keep spending more on certain social benefits-such as abuses of welfare programmes within the European Union-which cost the country billions and ultimately harm us. “Those funds could be better used to ease the burden on working citizens” he argued. Söder noted that grid fees have already been lowered and urged for a continuation of the reduction in network charges.
