Sophie Passmann, the author and podcaster, expressed regret over an essay she wrote about cosmetic procedures. In an interview with the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit”, she said, “I shouldn’t have written the essay on Botox-not because the content was wrong, but it probably encouraged more people to try Botox, and that was not my intention”. In 2023 she had written for “Die Zeit” about her own experience with lip injections.
Passmann feels that her original point-that these procedures are neither inherently feminist nor anti‑feminist-has been misinterpreted. “The public took it that I consider lip injections ultrafeminist, so now I’m being labelled a Botox feminist” she explained. In hindsight, she added that lip injections are “absolutely overrated” describing the injections as painful and disruptive during meals.
Beyond cosmetic topics, Passmann has spoken out against the SPD’s proposal to ban social‑media use for children, a policy she opposes because she is a party member. “I reject outright bans, but the debate is important” she said. She warned that the exposure to fake news, violence, and negative ratings can be harmful, especially for developing brains, noting that adults suffer from the same content as well.
