Germany’s leading social welfare association, Sozialverband Deutschland (SoVD), has urged the governing coalition to demonstrate effective leadership during its recent retreat in Würzburg. SoVD Chairwoman Michaela Engelmeier stated in comments published Thursday that citizens rightfully expect solutions and forward-looking strategies, not gridlock and public disputes. She cautioned against a repeat of previous periods of governmental inaction, referring to it as “not needing an ‘Ampel 2.0′”.
Engelmeier emphasized the federal government’s current responsibility to overcome existing stagnation. She asserted that concrete action is now required, moving beyond statements of intent. This includes reforms related to pensions, healthcare and eldercare, alongside investments in affordable housing and the implementation of equitable tax policies.
The SoVD chairwoman stressed the urgency of addressing significant reform challenges, stating they should no longer be postponed. She called for a clear roadmap with a firm commitment to consistent implementation.
