Spahn Praises CDU’s Strong Showing in North Rhine-Westphalia Elections

The parliamentary group leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Jens Spahn, originating from North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), expressed considerable satisfaction with the outcome of the recent local elections. Spahn characterized the CDU’s victory in Dortmund as a historic achievement, according to an interview with the “Rheinische Post.

Beyond Dortmund, the CDU maintained strong results in Essen and Düsseldorf. This means that CDU mayors now lead three of NRW’s five largest cities. The party also secured wins in Aachen, Bonn, Leverkusen, Bielefeld and Hagen, alongside successful campaigns for district administrators in Herford and Lippe.

Spahn described the electoral performance as exceptionally strong, noting that the party hasn’t achieved such widespread success since 1999. He labelled the night as a “remarkable success” for the CDU.
