Jens Spahn, the chairman of the Union parliamentary group, suggested that Germany could lure foreign entrepreneurs and founders with a tax incentive. “The fact is that we have to see how we can offer investors attractive terms; otherwise they won’t come” he told the Monday edition of “Handelsblatt”.
Spahn pointed out that Italy already offers tax breaks for emigrants who relocate back to the country. “I hear from the US that many founders and entrepreneurs are considering a return to Europe” he said. “The Italians recognized this trend early and give such people very attractive tax benefits in the first years”.
According to Spahn, a similar approach could work for Germany. “Bringing in technical know‑how, entrepreneurial spirit, and investors makes sense” he added. He acknowledged that implementing such measures in the current black‑red coalition might prove difficult. “In Germany, proposals of this nature often trigger reflexive rejection, I know that” he said. “But we could use more innovation and entrepreneurial drive”.
