The Federal SPD is demanding that the CDU take action following a donation of €10,000 from a CDU mayor in Saxony-Anhalt to the AfD, alongside an official electoral recommendation for the party. Dirk Wiese, spokesperson for the SPD parliamentary group, told the “Rheinische Post” (Friday edition), stating that if a CDU officeholder donates €10,000 to the AfD and calls for the removal of the “firewall” (a term referring to political barriers against the far-right), “this is not an insignificant local incident.”
Wiese further stressed that the Christdemocrats must provide a swift and clear response. He insisted that there must now be absolute clarity across the CDU that there is no room for any support for the AfD. He added that the SPD has always been unambiguous regarding this issue.
According to Wiese, anyone, like CDU Mayor Bernd Prange, who provides such massive financial support to the AfD and wishes it an absolute majority in the state election, “is leaving the democratic center and continuing to work toward normalizing a constitutionally hostile party.”
