The SPD is calling on oil conglomerates to immediately lower gasoline prices following the announcement regarding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. According to Fraktionsvize Esra Limbacher speaking to the “Rheinische Post” (Thursday edition), she noted that “oil prices dropped by double digits just overnight into Wednesday. This needs to be quickly reflected in the prices at the pump”. Limbacher further added that the excessive price increases compared to other European countries have put a significant strain on German motorists. She stated, “I expect the companies to pass on the rapid decline in global crude oil prices just as immediately as they passed on the increases”. Meanwhile, it was also suggested that current government measures have been insufficient to curb prices. Limbacher concluded, “Therefore, it is correct that we must cap fuel prices and tax windfall profits. The Minister of Economics must finally take action on this front”.
