SPD Demands VW Management Collaborate with Unions on Layoff Plans

Sebastian Roloff, a politician from the SPD focused on economic policy, has called upon the Volkswagen management to collaborate with employees and unions regarding the planned job reductions. Roloff told the “Rheinische Post” on Friday that he expects companies to develop smart strategies jointly with their employees and their representation. He emphasized that these strategies must not attack the VW Act or the existing co-determination rights.

The SPD’s economic policy spokesperson also noted that the current coalition has established important conditions for the transformation of the industry through various incentives, including improvements to electric company car regulations, purchase bonuses for electric vehicles, the extension of tax exemptions for these cars, and the exemption of electric trucks from toll fees.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen faces the threat of up to four factory closures in Germany, and the Bundestag will be debating the crisis at a later session on Thursday afternoon.
