SPD Rejects Proposal

Lawmakers within the Social Democratic Party (SPD) have rejected proposals to eliminate the initial level of care support, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining existing benefits. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post” deputy parliamentary group leader Dagmar Schmidt emphasized the party’s opposition to benefit reductions, stating the focus remains on ensuring all individuals in Germany can access necessary support when facing personal care needs or those of family members.

Schmidt highlighted ongoing efforts to establish a sustainable and long-term financial foundation for the care insurance system. A joint task force comprising federal and state representatives is currently developing proposals which will be carefully evaluated by the party.

The deputy parliamentary group leader cautioned against repeated discussions regarding potential cuts, urging a focus on a thorough assessment of the task force’s recommendations. She further stressed the importance of strengthening the revenue side of the system and ensuring broad-based solidarity to guarantee its financial stability and future viability.
