SPD Urges Federal Cartel Office to Scrutinize Escalating Fuel Prices Amid Iran‑Related Surge.

Tim Klussendorf, the SPD’s general secretary, has urged the Federal Cartel Office to investigate rising prices for gas, oil and petrol. He warned that petroleum companies should not profit from the dire situation in Iran at the expense of ordinary consumers and called on the cartel office to scrutinise the market and intervene decisively if any anti‑competitive practices are found.

At the same time Klüssendorf appealed to Economy Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU) to examine measures that could ease the burden on citizens. He said that further pressure on consumers must be avoided so that previous gains are not undone. Reiche should keep a close eye on energy‑supply developments and price movements, and be ready to act promptly if necessary.
