St. Pauli secured a commanding 2-0 victory over Hamburger SV in Friday’s Bundesliga city derby, played before a sold-out crowd of 57,000 at the Volksparkstadion. Adam Dzwigala opened the scoring in the 19th minute, capitalizing on a corner kick, giving the visitors an early lead.
While Hamburger SV initially showed promising attacking intent, they were unable to convert their opportunities. St. Pauli then effectively controlled possession for much of the first half and nearly doubled their advantage through Mathias Pereira Lage before the break.
The home side came out with renewed energy after halftime, but a potential equalizer from Ransford Königsdörffer in the 48th minute was disallowed following a VAR review for offside. St. Pauli immediately responded, extending their lead with a clinical counter-attacking goal finished by Andreas Hountondji in the 60th minute.
Hamburger SV pressed forward in the closing stages, but their efforts were hampered by a yellow card turned red for Giorgi Gocholeishvili in the 77th minute. St. Pauli effectively managed the remainder of the match, securing a decisive derby win – their first Bundesliga victory against their city rivals since the HSV’s promotion.
