A comprehensive modernization agenda for the German state and public administration is being drafted, aiming to streamline processes and enhance efficiency. According to reports in the Handelsblatt, Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger (CDU) is spearheading the initiative, fulfilling a coalition agreement commitment to present a substantial reform strategy by 2025.
The core focus of the proposed agenda is a significant reduction in bureaucratic burdens. Minister Wildberger’s plan aims to lower administrative costs by 25 percent, potentially saving citizens and businesses an estimated ten billion euros in associated expenditures. Specific measures will include easing documentation and information reporting requirements for companies.
The modernization strategy is structured around five key action areas: reducing bureaucracy, simplifying legal frameworks, improving service delivery to both citizens and businesses, modernizing personnel management practices and enhancing the overall efficiency of the federal administration. Key objectives include eliminating redundancies, accelerating decision-making processes and demonstrably improving the performance of public services through measurable metrics. The initiative seeks to transform government operations to be more responsive and effective.
