A suspect has been apprehended in connection with the shooting death of U.S. influencer Charles Kirk, according to reports. U.S. President Donald Trump stated Friday morning (local time) that he believes the suspect is “highly likely” to be in custody.
Multiple U.S. media outlets, citing informed sources, reported independently that a person had been detained and was being questioned. A press conference has also been scheduled. Authorities had previously released footage purportedly showing the suspect fleeing the scene. It remains unconfirmed whether the individual now in custody is the same person depicted in the publicly released images.
Charles Kirk, known for his close association with Donald Trump, was fatally shot on Wednesday during a speaking engagement at the Utah Valley University campus in Orem. He was struck by a single bullet from a distance estimated to be approximately 400 feet.
