Swastika Found on Ballot in German State Parliament

During a secret ballot within the Baden-Württemberg state parliament, a ballot paper was marked with a swastika. The incident was revealed by Landtag President Muhterem Aras (Green Party) during an ongoing session on Thursday afternoon.

The revelation prompted immediate reaction, with former Baden-Württemberg state parliament member and current federal parliament representative Hans-Jürgen Goßner (AfD) condemning the act as “unfathomably despicable” on social media platform X.

The Baden-Württemberg Landtag comprises 154 members. The Green Party holds 57 seats, while the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) holds 43, collectively forming the governing coalition. The Social Democratic Party (SPD) holds 19 seats, the Free Democratic Party/German Conservative Party (FDP/DVP) holds 18 and the Alternative for Germany (AfD) holds 17. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
