Transport Minister Snubs 9‑Euro Ticket Reintroduction, Rejects Fuel Price Caps and Speed Limits.

Despite rising fuel prices, Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) rejected pressure to bring the nine‑euro ticket back. He told newspapers from the Funke Media Group that the Deutschlandticket, priced at €63, remains far cheaper than ordinary monthly passes and is valid nationwide. Schnieder said the scheme will be funded through 2030 and urged many regions to adopt it, especially given the current economic climate.

In the same interview, Schnieder dismissed Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil’s suggestion to introduce fuel‑price caps modeled on Luxembourg. He argued that Luxembourg’s uniform pricing represents a strong market intervention that hampers competition and should only be considered in extreme emergencies.

Schnieder also declined calls for a motorway speed limit, arguing that responsible driving already costs drivers, and that people already feel the financial impact even without a statutory limit.
