Truck mileage on toll-paying heavy goods vehicles with at least four axles on Germany’s federal highways decreased by 0.8 percent in June 2025 compared to the previous month.
According to data released Wednesday by the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) and the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the seasonally adjusted truck toll mileage index showed a year-on-year decline of 1.1 percent.
Authorities state that truck mileage on highways often serves as an early indicator of the current economic trends, particularly within the industrial sector. The fundamental connection stems from the symbiotic relationship between economic activity and transportation needs – increased production generally requires greater freight movement and vice versa.
Statisticians emphasize the significant correlation between the truck toll mileage index and broader economic activity indices, notably the production index for the manufacturing sector. The data provides a snapshot of current trends in logistical operations and their potential link to industrial output.
