According to U.S. President Donald Trump, Iran has asked the United States to agree to a ceasefire. Trump posted the claim on his Truth Social account on Wednesday, saying that the “president of the new regime in Iran” had made the request. He did not name the Iranian official but described him as “less radicalised and smarter than his predecessors”. Trump added that the U.S. would consider a ceasefire once the Strait of Hormuz is open and secure, and that until then the country would “bomb Iran back to the Stone Age”. He has repeatedly spoken of exchanges with the Iranian leadership in recent days, but Tehran has consistently denied any such talks.
