Trump Demands Hormuz Reopen, Threatens Attacks on Iran’s Power Plants

Donald Trump has issued a fresh ultimatum to Iran, warning on his Truth Social platform that the United States will strike Iranian power plants if the country does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. The president said the U.S. would target and destroy Iranian power facilities, starting with the largest one.

The threat marks a new escalation in Trump’s rhetoric. He had previously hinted that Iranian infrastructure could be hit, but cautioned that doing so would hamper the country’s ability to rebuild. Trump explained that the closure of the Strait gives Iran significant leverage. The 48‑hour deadline expires at 2 p.m. German time on the day the warning was issued.

Trump’s latest threat follows his earlier comments that the United States is considering withdrawing its military presence from the Middle East. In recent days he also urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to cease attacks on Iranian oil and gas installations. Iran, in turn, warned that if Trump carries out his threat, it would target U.S. infrastructure in the region.
