Trump Extends Gulf Ultimatum to Iran Amid Oil Threats and Regional Tensions

Former US President Donald Trump reportedly extended his deadline for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz by a day. On Sunday, Trump posted solely the time “Tuesday, 8 PM Eastern Time” to his online service, Truth Social, without any further explanation. When questioned by US media, he confirmed that the post referred to the ultimatum. Previously, the US President had threatened Tehran with massive attacks on civilian infrastructure, such as power plants and bridges, if the strait remained closed.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump stated that if an agreement was not reached, he would “blow everything up and take the oil”. However, he expressed confidence that a resolution might be reached before the deadline, noting that negotiations were currently underway. On the other hand, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf warned that Trump’s actions could plunge the US “into hell” and ignite the entire region.
