Trump Names Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin as New Homeland Security Secretary, Replacing Kristi Noem

President Donald Trump has announced that he will replace Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem with Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin. Mullin will assume the position on March 31, Trump said on Thursday.

In his statement Trump praised Noem for “excellent service and numerous remarkable achievements” and will appoint her as a Special Envoy for “The Shield of the Americas” a new security initiative for the Western Hemisphere that the administration plans to unveil this Saturday in Doral, Florida.

The president highlighted that Mullin has represented Oklahoma in both the House and the Senate, noting his success “in winning all 77 districts in 2016, 2020 and 2024”. Mullin is described as a “convincing MAGA supporter” and will focus on securing borders, preventing migrant crime, stopping murderers and other criminals from illegal entry, fighting the drug problem, and restoring safety to America.

Noem has come under heavy criticism recently, with Democrats accusing her of turning a blind eye to the deaths of two U.S. citizens during deportation raids.
