Trump Rejects Iran Truce Offer Amid Ongoing Tensions

US President Donald Trump has dismissed a proposal put forward by several nations for a 45-day ceasefire with Iran. On Monday, Trump called the initiative a “significant step” but stated that it was “not enough”. This plan, which was submitted to the US and Iran on Monday, is viewed as a final attempt to avert massive attacks on Iranian power plants and other infrastructure that the US President had threatened if the Strait of Hormuz remained blocked.

During an annual Easter event at the White House, Trump commented that the Iranian leadership had become “much more reasonable”. He claimed that the “first and second regime” had been removed, and that the current group involved in dealings with the US was “less radicalized” and “more intelligent”. However, a White House official stated that Trump has not yet agreed to the proposal, describing it as one of many ideas while a military operation in Iran continues.

Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey are currently acting as mediators between the two warring countries, although the indirect talks have recently stalled. According to US reports, the latest proposal was sent to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. Nevertheless, Tehran reportedly rejected a temporary ceasefire, arguing that it would give their adversaries a chance to prepare for the continuation of the conflict.
