Trump Says New Iranian Regime Will Negotiate, Urges Public to Seize Opportunity

After the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, U.S. President Donald Trump said that the new Iranian leadership is showing a willingness to engage in talks. “The Atlantic” reported that Trump had agreed to a conversation and plans to speak with the remaining Iranian officials.

He criticized the Iranian side for waiting too long to initiate negotiations. When asked when the discussion would take place, Trump declined to give a precise date and noted that several of Iran’s recent negotiating partners have since passed away. He added that Iran should have acted sooner to reach an agreement.

In a video message released on Saturday, Trump urged the Iranian people to rise against the current regime. He said the moment had come for Iranians to take control of their own destiny and build a prosperous future.
