US President Donald Trump abruptly canceled the visit to Islamabad, Pakistan, scheduled for his top negotiators Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. The purpose of the trip was for a US delegation to work with Iranian counterparts on a ceasefire agreement aimed at ending the conflict between the US and Iran.
Speaking to Fox News on Saturday, Trump described the cancellation by stating, “I told my people earlier that they were about to leave: ‘No, you are not flying 18 hours there.’ We have all the cards in hand. They can call us at any time, but you are not going to undertake any more 18-hour flights just to sit around and discuss trivialities”.
In related news, it was previously reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi left Islamabad on Saturday. Araghchi had conducted talks there on Friday, including sessions with his Pakistani counterpart and also meeting with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. According to reports, after leaving Pakistan, Araghchi traveled directly to Oman and subsequently to Russia, seeking support in the ongoing conflict involving the US and Israel.
